this isn't it...yet

Sorry for any confusion that my last post brought...I'm not married.

I wanted to share another great entry by Head for Art. There is so much here to inspire a girl like me.

This entry is titled Amazing Grace. Check it out here.

This is it.

My roommate, Emily, is a professional seamstress and she usually is working on at least one gorgeous wedding gown in our living room. Having these dresses around has started many conversations about what type of dress we'd like to wear for our own weddings.

I'm really into aesthetics so I can't help but have ideas about wedding decor, etc. that I'd like to have for my big day, but wedding dresses SCARE me! I have no idea what I want or what would look good on me. All I know at this point is that I want something unique, perhaps vintage, with lots of texture.

Then I found this image on my favorite wedding blog, Style me Pretty, and I think I'm in love. Don't you think this is it?! The dress, the hair, (maybe even the guy!)...the girl even LOOKS like me...not so sure about the whole outside reception thing.

Ok I guess I'd better start finding a date for Friday. Gotta start somewhere, right?

P.S. Guess what? Today I found out that in a month I will be presenting a paper at a Smithsonian event. I'm presenting my same 5 minute Senior Thesis presentation from BYU about Cezanne. I might be nervous when the time comes, but at least it's not for a grade. It's more an opportunity to get feedback and to get my ideas out there.

a lot of good things

Today started out as one of those days where I pushed snooze for 30 minutes, finally got in the shower, got out, wrapped myself in a towel, and got back in bed for 20 more minutes.

I left for work about 15 minutes late and also realized as I was walking to the metro that I forgot my umbrella AGAIN and it was supposed to rain.

Once I got to work... good stuff started happening.

I walked in and there was a huge basket of little packages of seeds. A gift to us from the management of our building. I chose a package of poppy flower seeds. I want to plant them and see if they'll grow!

I went to lunch with some coworkers at Jetties in upper Georgetown. I had an AMAZING sandwich of freshly carved turkey, bacon, avacado, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. It was huge and half of it was my dinner. I recommend this place for a summer date. There's lots of outdoor seating and it's in a really beautiful part of DC, off the beaten path. The place reminds me of good old Doc's in Raytown, where I, in fact, had my first date. (no website?!)

The best part of lunch? Sitting in the mild sunshine with the director of operations and just talking and talking about museum work and our experiences and our goals. For a while, I've felt that he and I aren't really on the same page, but today he really listened to me and gave me some good advice and guidance. He encouraged me to pursue some ideas that I've had brewing in my mind and even planted some new ideas that I had never thought of.

After lunch, the group of us went to the Kreeger Museum, which is an amazing, small museum in DC that is mostly open by appointment only. It's way off the beaten path, so I've never had an opportunity to go. It blew my mind. The building itself, was built as the residence for the Kreeger family by the famous American architect, Philip Johnson. The building is perfectly proportioned in both dimension and positive and negative space and with such amazing textures and materials. If the Kreeger museum was converted into an LDS Temple, I wouldn't complain. I know it might sound bad to say this, but I had to stop and differentiate my feelings from that space to how I feel in the Temple. It was that amazing. But I realized that in Philip Johnson's space, my feelings of awe were really hyper and caused my mind to race and draw connections and to feel almost pressured to get as much out of it as I could. In the Temple, I walk in and my heart and mind are instantly at ease and there is no pressure feeling. Just saying that both places have a profound effect on me but in different ways. I'm intense. I know.

So don't even get me started on the art collection itself, but I'd say its one of the best 19th century European art collections in DC. LOVED the art. LOVED the tour. And remember how it was supposed to rain? Not a drop. It was beautiful and perfect outside.

When I got back to work, you'll never believe this, but I had FLOWERS waiting for me! I have never had flowers sent to me before. I was kind of disbelieving at first, thinking that it must have been a mistake. But my DAD sent me flowers! Still don't know why. Thanks Dad!

Also, when I was walking home, I crossed the wooden bridge where a cute little stream goes under. And there were two ducks, with like 8 or 10 j'adorable little yellow duckies swimming around with them. So cute!

Then I went home and read in the hammock on the balcony. It was a lovely day.

hello.

My boss (the Director) has been out of the office for several months awaiting and finally recuperating from a liver transplant. He's back and he's so kind and wonderful to work for. Yesterday he played this video at our all staff meeting to say thank you for the support he's received over the past several months.

It's a tribute to portraiture, community, and support from our friends and family...all things that are very important to the work we do.

Watch this video! It will make you smile.

I like it

There's just something about an art historian who can find connections between a 17th century dutch painting and pop stars like Katy Perry and Russell Brand.

Seriously, if I had all the time in the world, I would write essays like this all the time. Because these are the types of thoughts that swirl through my head.

Check out this blog. I enjoy reading it every day.
