I felt so out of style this morning when I was walking to work. If I'm not wearing a pencil skirt with a tucked in blouse with a skinny belt I am not in style so it would seem. I almost broke my no repeats rule this morning but at the last minute decided I needed to keep going...so that's why I'm out of style. I'm wearing a grey A-line pinstriped skirt with a lighter grey blouse with flowy sleeves and a black shade underneath. Out of desperation and the 98 degree forecast I took a pair of scissors to my shade and cut the bottom half off. I feel good about that. No more extra layer where its not even needed.
It is HOT today but I ran this morning! I love it when that happens. And as today is the day after Memorial Day, I have successfully completed my goal of no desserts or sweets since I started the day before Valentine's Day, and at times, it was really hard! This is my second year of doing this, and I might make it an annual tradition. This year I definitely wanted to get in better shape, but I haven't noticed much of a physical difference, though other improvements are unmistakable. A little weight loss, tons more energy, sleeping better, fewer headaches, and exercising more frequently. But there is still more I could be doing. So as of right now, I don't plan to run to Baked and Wired on my lunch break. I think I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and if Melanie Steimle decides to put yet another fabulous one-of-a-kind cake in front of me or a cupcake or homemade ice cream, I may decide to partake. It would be cool to go sugar free for a year, but I dont think Ill do it this time.
I had the best weekend ever. And overall have been doing some really fun things lately. I love summer! If I can bum some pics off people I will post about the weekend soon.

Last Day in Paris, January 2nd 2011
Watching over things with these guys:
Taking in the grey views:
Then sought out some COLOR!
I was so obsessed with France's frocked Christmas trees in every color of the rainbow...definitely will be doing in my future.
Paid my respects to Emile Zola
Here.
And bought a copy of my favorite book, Au Bonheur des Dames or The Ladies' Paradise written by him in the French language...I've been on page 2 for about a month.
How is it that even the trash in France is adorable? I almost ran off with one of these crates.
Bremen and I had our last little Parisian moment at Les Halles. We said au revoir to the setting sun.
And on our final commute home, we stopped to listen to a full orchestra in the metro.
Bremen and I both read Ernest Hemingway's A Moveable Feast while in Paris, something everyone should do, especially if you spend a lot of time on the left bank and in the Latin Quarter comme nous.
But this is how Paris was in the early days when we were very poor and very happy.

a working girl's fashion
I'm a working girl now. Here are some of my thoughts on a working girl's fashion...
Right now I'm trying to wear everything in my closet. I don't have a lot of clothes, but I have a good amount. Of that good amount I adore probably 20%, am indifferent about 50%, and dislike about 30% mostly because the clothes are old, ill-fitting, or not very stylish. So since I started working a week and a half ago, I'm not allowing any repeats until/unless absolutely necessary. Shoes too (with a little more leniency). I predict that I can maybe go 4 or 5 weeks without repeating pants/skirts/dresses and quite a bit longer without repeating tops with the exceptions of cardigans (I wear one almost everyday).
Normally I get into major clothes ruts and I only wear the clothes I like and all the time. I think of how I dressed at NPG and it's not that cute. I'm talking I would wear the same shirt once every week and the same pants/skirts once or more times a week. I'm taking some inspiration from a girl I worked with at NPG who's wardrobe amazed me. I rarely saw her ever wear something more than once and that was in the almost 2 years I was there. She also used to work at Anthropologie and got most of her clothes from there. Lucky her.
So I'm putting a little more thought into my outfit planning. I'm wearing in-season, work appropriate clothing and spreading out the more stylish pieces to update the look of older pieces. I'm kind of crazy and I'm writing down in my planner what I wore so I can remember to not repeat it...also even crazier, I pulled out everything in my closet last night and stacked the clothes on the floor and I'm hanging them up only after I wear them. I'm weird.

goodness to come
From beautiful spring in Kansas City back to Washington DC, I feel like I have so much to blog about. Here's a quick list of blog posts to keep an eye out for:
*last day in Paris (Still haven't finished posting the trip)
*Cherry blossoms
*More Shoes You This Day goodness
*Trip to KC
Thanks to all of you for your sweet comments on my blog. I feel a little silly and might ban ego-inflating comments from now on. So from now on no more of that frilly fluffy stuff. Just say things like...ugh you're going back to SCHOOL? or Your commute sounds awful. Just keep commenting so I know people read, but don't be so ridiculous people!
The above pic is of Meridian Hill park in DC. So beautiful and relaxing. My friend had a birthday picnic here today and it was a delightful mix of people. The weather was perfect, everyone appeared to have the best taste in food, because the food was AWESOME, and the atmosphere was sweet. I looked around and there were picnic-ers all over and everyone was young like in their 20s and it was just exciting. I love being in areas where young people congregate and it's chill and wholesome.
And one more thing...can I just say that even though I just said no more ego-inflating comments I just need to lift the ban for one little thing. I deserve this. Here goes: I STILL have not eaten sweets, desserts, treats, whatever you want to call it since I started on February 13!!! (except for one time when common courtesy dictated otherwise) It is so hard sometimes. It sucks. But anyway- today was one of those hard days so I just needed to say that I got through it.
I'm speaking in sacrament meeting tomorrow AND teaching Relief Society...it's 11:46 pm I guess I should start on my lesson.
ok bye.
