HISTORY

   gotcha
We made history in the DC 2nd Ward.

I just have to share this story. It's so good. Maybe you had to be there, but I'm hoping you'll love this story too.

So our Elders' Quorum had a campout planned for June 15th at a campsite in Montgomery county. We'd camped there before. It's a great site because it is a huge secluded park not far from the city. Kelli had a great idea to show the guys some love by heart attacking their cars during the night. We bounced around a few ideas and frets about getting caught.  But ultimately we decided on these simple guidelines...everything else would play out naturally:

1) get as much recon beforehand as possible
2) keep the numbers small. 1 car. No more than 5 girls.
3) go late. rely on the fact that men don't have pillow talk
and they should go to bed at a decent hour. But give them some time to fall asleep.
4) wear black
5) have hearts and tape READY
6) no talking, no laughing, no cameras

Caitlin did some dirty work by contacting the planners of the event, pretending she was getting the info for a friend. She found out which campsite, what the parking situation would be like, what the general schedule would be, and what to look for to find the campsite.

We printed off directions, got all dressed in black, lit some candles and got started on the heart making. We laughed and came up with some really goofy one-liners. Then we had the bright idea to put lipstick on and kiss the hearts.

I think we decided no matter what happened this part of the night alone was worth it. I started texting Bremen to find out if he went to the campout and get a feel for what they were doing. He said there was a pretty good  turn out and asked what I was up to, which my guilty conscience assumed he knew we were up to something. I told him I was at Caitlin's and left it at that.

Once we had our hearts divvied out and enough tape rolls for each girl, we hit the road and partied it up in the car the whole way out. We followed the directions the EQ provided and we got super lost. Like ended up at an elementary school. Probably the funniest part of the whole night was when we were creeping along this road, absolutely certain that the campsite was just around the bend and shushing each other, just to find a house and more houses and cars and realizing we were just on a residential street.

We were so uptight and kind of slaphappy nervous. We made it to the wrong campsite and then finally April figured out the map and got us to the right campsite. We started seeing signs like this:

We inched along the gravel road freaking OUT about what we were going to do next. April and I had been to this campsite before and we remembered the road goes right into the campsite and people park their cars along the site. So basically the tents, fires, and cars are all together. I had my iPhone map that helped us know about where on the road the campsite was. We parked probably about 1/2 mile away, turned the car around for a quick getaway and walked the rest of the way in. We KNEW we were THERE when we saw the embers of the fire, tents, and bodies sleeping on the grass. We instantly were silent and walked on the grass rather than the gravel. We made our way to the cars. It was pitch black. I used my cell phone to look at the make of the car I was heart attacking. It was a Saab from Colorado, so I KNEW that was Jimmy's in our ward. I also saw a DC Corvette and was certain it didn't belong to anyone in our ward (I was wrong.) There were a few cars from Utah so we knew we hit the jackpot. We did the deed. It took maybe 20 minutes. The only sounds were the crunching of gravel and the sticking of tape. My hands were shaking the entire time. We were really close to the tents and sleeping bags. The cars were parked at the farthest point from the entrance to the campsite, so we walked a good 50 yards past sleeping bags and tents to get to the cars.

When I was done I got OUT of there. I headed out beyond the vision of the camp and tried to show the other girls where I was with my cell phone, but they couldn't find me for the longest time. Eventually we all found each other and silently left the campsite. After about 10 minutes of walking we busted out laughing. We made it back to the car and took some victory pics.

We decided to keep this a big secret. I might have made a mistake by posting on facebook a status update at 3:00 am which read: Epic [ep-ik] adj. heroic; majestic; impressively great

BECAUSE IT WAS!!!

The next morning I checked facebook and saw that one of the guys had posted these pics

That's the Corvette.

With the post said something like: " Last night, treachery was committed by vandals in the night. This will not stand..."

HA HA! And oh boy the accusations, the text messages, the phone calls came flying. Everyone accused my fb status as a clue. Jokes were made that the EQ president "R"oy "S"methers had done an inside job. They joked they would line the sisters up in RS and match lips with kiss marks.

I went to church on Sunday and found some of those hearts on the door of the EQ room. They are still there today. All the guys were talking about it and I just responded, "Oh is that what all those hearts are about?" Bremen spake in Sacrament Meeting (Father's Day). Part of his talk referenced the languages of love and he claimed there is a little known 6th language in the form of "heart attacking" and pulled out some of the hearts as examples. Of course all of us girls involved were cracking up. We still didn't fess up until later that night when Caitlin posted all of the evidence on facebook.

The overall purpose was truly to show the guys in the ward that we think about them, care for them, and like being around them! I think it really made them feel good. I'm so glad we did it.

Oh it was the best of times. Will the EQ retaliate??

Back to the Grind

1st session of summer school really took it out of me. I was in two-hour classes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It was a bit ambitious of me and maybe I wasn't able to juggle everything as well as I needed. I got an A- in both classes and I am kind of bummed about that, because I feel like I should have gotten As. Especially at the end I just didn't have anything left to give. Well it's over and I had a few days off to break from school AND work.
Here's a taste of my summer so far:

Throw in a regionally crippling storm, a national holiday, and a week off work and that about covers it!

Sometimes I get down on life, but when I look at these pictures I remember how great my life is. I have the best of friends and the most glorious opportunities.
