Guess what? Tonight was a night of miracles...let me explain.
1) I was feeling stressed because of all the things I need to do before I leave for Paris. So tonight I was planning on making a trek to Ikea to return some things and then call it a night. I got everything ready, went out to my car, turned it on to heat it up, cleaned out my car, put windshield wiper fluid in it, drove to Ikea (NO TRAFFIC) walked in, made my return (NO LINE), bought a 50 cent hot dog and was back out to my car in 5 minutes flat. I drove home (NO TRAFFIC)
2) I was so ecstatic about how much time it didn't take that I ran inside and got prepared for the rest of my errands I was going to do tomorrow. I drove to Sprint (NO LINE), got the info I needed, drove to Target, got the stuff I needed, sneaked in a phone call to my mom (Who ever has time for that?), drove to another store to make another return (NO LINE) and drove home.
3) Made a quick dinner and then got a surprise visit from Julie and got to visit with her for a while. Plus I got to open presents.
4) OH!!! On the way home from my errands I saw a bunch of slow moving fire trucks approaching me. I couldn't figure out why they were driving so slow, then I saw that Santa Clause was riding on top of one of the fire trucks and waving and ho ho hoing to everyone! I loved it! And you know me, I was alone in my car and definitely rolled down the window and waved with all my might to Santa.
Got a lot done tonight but will have tons more to do tomorrow.

un projet
One day I found the most beautiful birdcage in the free-for-all pile in the laundry room. I took it, worked on it a bit, and painted it yellow. I love it.
Instead of a feathery friend, it houses my art books
I love all the handmade detail. Who would throw this out?
I found another yellow birdhouse in a decor store tonight. The picture is bad, but it is the exact same color as mine. It's good to know I'm not the only one crazy enough to want a big yellow bird cage.

Shoes You This Day: thoughts on today (listed numerically)
1) This is what I saw looking down.
2) This is what I saw looking straight ahead.
3) This was my nightly to do list I made at work. The only thing I didn't do was go to safeway. and pack.
4) This is the holiday decor I made for my door. I walked past this abandoned Christmas tree bough in the middle of the street for a few days and every day thought, "I want that." Well I finally brought it home. It is so absolutely perfectly shaped. I especially love the one little branch that droops down.
5) I love my galoshes too much and have never seen another pair like mine so, since they are totally breaking, I getto-rigged them with black gorilla tape duct tape. Sweet. no picture (...yet...)
6) Jack Frost nipping at my nose is awful not delightful.
7) I'm pulling an all-nighter kind of. jk I'm going to bed kind of soon, but I'm really tired and have stayed up way too late and have to wake up really early. I haven't packed for New York yet and I'll have to do that in the morning before work. I am a bad morning packer.
8) I am pretty much done with the yellow bird house. I don't have before and after pictures because it freaks me out to be held responsible for the outcome.
Good night. Look for my Shoes You This Day posts from NYC this weekend. They are bound to be spectacular. But they will be the same old shoes. It's the surroundings that make it exciting not the shoes, ok? I wear the same ones all the time.

Shoes You This Day: Imagine

two thoughts:
1) I heart John Lennon. I wish I still had the clay head I sculpted in high school art class. I came home from college one year to find my mom had lovingly displayed it in our house and I think I threw it away without telling her because I was embarrassed. Been listening to his and Yoko's "Happy Christmas" song.
2) What if the current controversy at my work (Sorry, no details or links. Do you know what I'm talking about? What? You haven't read every. single. article. like I have?) wasn't about offending Christians, or about censorship or leadership or freedom of speech?
What if during our staff meeting today when we were encouraged to share our opinions about the debacle, instead of sitting there silently begging my thoughts to come up with a coherent opinion, like I'm sure Lindsey would have been awesome at doing, What if I had stood up and said this:
I love a powerful crucifixion or descension of Christ scene. Art History is full of them. But I feel much better while viewing the Pieta, which I LOVE, than I did when I watched the piece causing this controversy. It made me feel icky. But you know what the amazing and absolutely true thing it? Regardless of how you portray Christ's sufferings and WHY you're doing it and for WHAT purpose you are using those images, the constant truth is that Christ really did descend below all things. He suffered your sufferings, plus paid the price for our selfish sins. So, the subject matter at the heart of all this controversy is in reality the one and only thing that really matters in this life. I say let's treat it respectfully.
The End.

recent project
I found a shabby little table in the trash. I glued some pieces back together, sanded it, and refinished.

Happy Thanksgiving and Boston adventures
My homemade apple cider!
Turkey rolls that I made from Lindstew Foodies. (Lindsey, don't laugh at how these turned out! Not as good as yours, but as you can see, we literally ate them in the car on the way to Boston.)
Beautiful Salem, Massachusetts

standing outside the House of Seven Gables
This is the home and property of Rebecca Nurse, one of the accused and executed victims of the Salem Witchcraft Hysteria. Kinda creepy but very beautiful and peaceful.
Boston!
We ate dinner in the restaurant at the top of the Prudential Building. So fun!
Dream come true
Ralph Waldo Emerson's grave site. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Fall at Walden Pond
OMG. Sound Bites.
I now have a Harvard T-shirt!
Go Holyokes! or whatever.
