2000-2010: A Decade in Review #6

When: Spring 2001
Where: Kansas City, MO

One of my high school best friends was Sarah Totten. We had drifted apart a little by the end of Junior year. We were both going through doldrums. We decided to do something really weird together. We had these old fuzzy blue sweatpants that we found in old boxes in the locker room. They were old athletic warm ups from like the 70s and were really old school and vintage looking. The tops were especially cool. We stole them. We decided to wear the sweatpants everyday for a week, just to see if anyone would notice or say anything. We also planned out specific tops to wear for each day of the week. One day we wore the fuzzy blue sweatpants with the sweatshirts of our ex-boyfriends' colleges. The next day we wore the sweatpants with the t-shirts of their fraternities they had given us. One shirt we made and we tie-died it and ironed on the letters, Y-E-A. It was supposed to mean YAY (which is how I spell it now) and the lack of an exclamation point represented our overall ennuie with the world. I know we had other weird tops for other days, but I can't remember. This experience basically sums up my attitude during my Junior year AND my relationship with Sarah. We were weird and thrived on that. We drifted in and out of each others' lives but always picked right back up where we left off. And no one ever noticed the sweatpants.
